Geoclean 2317 can be applied through various methods, depending on the type of boiler and the severity of scale buildup:
- Chemical Circulation: In industrial settings, Geoclean 2317 can be circulated through the boiler using a circulation pump. This method continuously interacts with the deposits, effectively dissolving and removing them.
- Batch Treatment: For smaller boilers or residential applications, batch treatment involves adding Geoclean 2317 to the boiler, allowing it to work for a specified period, and then flushing the system to remove the dissolved scale.
- Manual Application: In cases of severe scale buildup or localized deposits, manual application may involve brushing or scrubbing the affected areas with a descaling solution.
- Safety Considerations: Safety is paramount when working with boiler descaling chemicals
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Personnel should wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing, when handling descaling chemicals
- Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is necessary to disperse any fumes or vapors produced during the descaling process.
- Neutralization: Have a neutralizing agent on hand, such as Geopure 1030, to neutralize spills or accidental skin contact with the descaling solution.
- Geopure Technical Personal Instructions: Always follow the Geopure Technical Personal instructions regarding dilution ratios, contact time, and proper disposal of used chemicals.
Geoclean 2317 can be used at strengths between 10 and 25% and at temperatures up to 80°C, the speed of reaction being enhanced by acid strength and elevated temperature.
When the acid is approaching exhaustion the color of the solution will change from red to yellow and this indicates that more Geopure 1030 should be added.
After completion of descaling equipment should be drained and flushed thoroughly and any acid effluent neutralized.
Completion of descaling should be determined by either testing pH periodically..
Materials and Equipment You Will Need:
- Boiler descaling chemical (appropriate for your boiler type)
- Water supply
- Safety gloves, goggles, and protective clothing
- Ventilation equipment (if required)
- Brushes or scrapers (if manual cleaning is necessary)
- Neutralizing agent (e.g., baking soda)
- Water hoses or pumps (for circulation methods)
Safety Precautions:
- Put on appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety gloves and goggles.
- Ensure proper ventilation in the work area or use additional ventilation equipment if required
- Prepare a neutralizing agent (e.g., baking soda) to neutralize spills or accidental skin contact with the descaling chemical.
Boiler Shut Down:
- Turn off the power supply to the boiler and allow it to cool down if it was in operation.
Isolate the Equipment:
- Close all valves and isolating devices on the inlet and outlet of the boiler to prevent any water or descaling solution from entering other parts of the system..
Drain the Boiler:
- Open the drain valve to completely drain the water from the boiler.
Preparation of Descaling Solution:
- Follow the Technical Personal's instructions to prepare the descaling solution. Ensure the correct dilution ratio and temperature if specified.
Application of Descaling Solution:
- There are different methods to apply the descaling solution, depending on the type of boiler and scale buildup:
- a. Chemical Circulation: If your boiler is equipped with a circulation pump, connect hoses to create a closed loop for the descaling solution. Circulate the solution through the boiler for the recommended duration.
- b. Batch Treatment If your boiler is smaller or lacks a circulation system, pour the descaling solution into the boiler. Allow it to sit for the recommended time.
- c. Manual ApplicationIf there are localized deposits or stubborn scale, apply the solution directly to those areas using brushes or scrapers
Agitation (if needed):
- Agitate the solution inside the condenser and evaporator to improve its contact with the scale deposits.
Rinse the System:
- After the recommended contact time, thoroughly flush the condenser and evaporator with fresh water to remove the dissolved scale and descaling chemical.
Neutralization:
- If the descaling chemical is acidic, neutralize any residual acid by applying a neutralizing agent like baking soda. Be cautious while doing this as it may produce effervescence.
Flush and Refill:
- Open the drain valve and flush the neutralized water from the boiler. Ensure all residual chemicals and debris are removed.
- Refill the boiler with fresh water and perform a water quality test to ensure the pH level is within the desired range
Startup and Testing:
- Restart the cooling system following the manufacturer's startup procedures.
- Monitor the system's performance and check for any improvements in efficiency and cooling capacity.
Maintenance Records:
- Document the descaling procedure, including the date, chemicals used, and any observations made during the process.
- Schedule regular maintenance and descaling as part of a preventive maintenance program.
